No More Taxes!
When running his first election, Arnold Schwarzenegger promised he would go to Sacramento and “blow up the boxes;” he would repeal the new car tax that Governor Grey Davis had signed into law and he would not raise any taxes on California families. Do you also remember that shortly after a successful recall of Grey Davis, the new Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, came to the voters of California and asked them to pass a $15 billion bond issue to get the state out of debt?
In the Tuesday, May 12, 2009, edition of The San Diego Union-Tribune, it reports “The state budget deficit has nearly doubled in the past months, climbing past $15 billion, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger disclosed yesterday.” Less than three months ago the Governor was elated that the legislature had passed a budget that would close the states record deficit.
During five of the six years I served in the California State Assembly, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Governor. During his tenure as the chief executive of the state, he has out spent Grey Davis every year. This Governor led the charge for the largest tax increase in the history of California. He again saddled Californian’s with higher car taxes, higher sales taxes, etc., etc. Now we are being asked to vote for even more taxes! If California isn’t already the highest taxed state in America, it is well on its way!
The San Diego Union-Tribune on May 12, 2009, editorialized regarding Propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E as follows: “The measures would impose yet another $16 billion tax hike, borrow billions from future lottery profits and raid funds dedicated to children’s programs and mental health services.” California doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. Instead of fixing the problem, Arnold Schwarzenegger has become the problem! Elected officials must keep their promises or they lose credibility. This Governor has broken his promises regarding no new taxes. In reality, Prop 1A itself is nothing more than a phony spending cap and extension to the tax increases Sacramento just passed earlier this year. Stopping the constant misuse of funds in Sacramento alone would be a good start, not the constant barrage of new taxation on our wallets!
During the last general election, some cities by way of a ballot measure raised their city sales tax. Now the state has raised its sales tax by a full percent. Citizens across America recently held TEA Parties to protest the excessive spending and taxes being imposed on Americans across the length and breadth of our great nation. Those who participate in the TEA Parties believe they must “exercise our 1st Amendment Rights to gather, protest and voice our opinions against the increasing assault to our wallets! The government continues to spend us out of our homes and businesses and we are fighting back! We are Silent No More! Join us in our efforts to educate, protest and campaign against those that would spend our state and country into poverty.” I stand with the TEA Parties in saying, “Enough is enough! Keep your taxes off my wallet!”
On May 19, 2009, when you walk into the ballot box, remember this one simple, clear, true fact; voting NO on Propositions 1A-E is the only hope Californians have in the fight against yet another heavy-handed tax increase.
Enough is enough Arnold; keep your taxes off my wallet!!!
VOTE NO ON PROPS. 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D and 1E.
